To identify your exact part, check the hinge cup for a stamped four-digit Blum part number (typically starting with 71 or 72 for soft-close models) or the glide rail for a printed spec sticker near the rear mounting hole. Wellborn does not manufacture its own hardware; they source from Blum, Grass, and Hettich depending on the series year. This matters because a 2019 Heritage kitchen in the Pruneyard area may carry Blum Tandem glides, while a 2022 build near Campbell Park could have switched to Grass Vionaro undermounts after supply-chain adjustments. Signs Your Wellborn Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

• Drawer sticks or requires a tug to open. The nylon roller on the glide carriage has flattened or cracked, usually from overloading or from Campbell’s hard water residue crystallizing in the track. Left alone, the steel rail scores and the whole glide assembly needs replacement.
• Door hangs crooked or won’t stay closed. The mounting plate screws have worked loose from the particleboard cabinet side, or the hinge cup has twisted from repeated slamming. In Campbell’s older ADU conversions near downtown, we’ve seen this accelerate where original cabinets were reinstalled without fresh pilot holes.
• Soft-close feature stopped working. The hydraulic piston inside the hinge arm has leaked its damping fluid. This is a sealed unit; there is no repair, only swap. The failure typically shows first on the most-used door, usually the sink base or trash pull-out.
• Laminate peeling at the door edge or face. Thermal cycling in uninsulated Campbell garage conversions causes the PVA adhesive to release. Wellborn’s standard laminate is 3mm PVC edge banding; if water has wicked underneath, the substrate swells and the bond fails progressively.
• Shelf pin holes have elongated or torn out. The 5mm press-fit pins were overloaded with heavy appliances or pantry goods. In a Campbell ADU we finished near Westmont Avenue last year, the owner had loaded a 24-inch upper with cast-iron cookware; the melamine shelf support crumbled and dropped six inches in one go.

DIY or Call Us?

There is no high-tension danger in cabinet hardware, but there is a fast path to worse damage. Where DIY goes wrong is forcing a seized glide, which bends the cabinet side; or drilling new shelf pin holes without a jig, which leaves a crooked row and weakens the panel. We’ve replaced three Campbell cabinets this year where the owner tried to re-tap stripped hinge screws with a larger diameter bit, blowing out the particleboard and converting a $65 hinge job into a $900 cabinet replacement.
