To identify your series, check the post cap: Allegro caps are cast aluminum with a subtle ribbed texture; Villa caps are injection-molded vinyl, smooth or wood-grain embossed. If the label’s worn off (common after five Campbell summers), measure the wall thickness of a rail end with calipers - Allegro is 0.080″ nominal, Villa is 0.060″ nominal. • Post lean after rain. The Campbell clay soils west of Winchester Boulevard expand when saturated, then shrink in dry months. • Bracket pop or rail detachment. Techo-Bloc’s snap-in brackets rely on a plastic tab that fatigues after roughly 500 thermal cycles. In Campbell, that’s about seven years of full sun exposure. The tab shears clean, and the rail drops - usually at the windward end of a run.
• Gate bind or latch misalignment. Hinge barrels on Allegro gates are brass-bushed; the bushing wears oval, and the gate drops 1/4″ to 1/2″. The latch then misses the strike plate. This is gradual until it isn’t - one hard slam seizes the hinge pin.
• Finish chalking or powder coat failure. Allegro’s coastal-grade powder coat holds 20 years in normal exposure, but the reflected UV from light-colored hardscaping (common with Techo-Bloc paver patios) accelerates chalking on the fence side facing the patio. It’s cosmetic until the substrate shows, then it’s structural.
