American Standard Bathroom Remodeling: The Campbell Owner’s Guide

American Standard bathroom remodeling in Campbell typically runs $9,000-$28,000 for a full renovation, with most homeowners landing in the $14,000-$22,000 range depending on fixture grade and layout changes. We stock and install American Standard’s complete residential line, including the Champion, Cadet, and Studio collections, and we carry common replacement cartridges, flanges, and rough-in valves on our Campbell trucks. Most American Standard part replacements can be quoted same-day and scheduled within 48 hours.

Campbell homeowners usually discover an American Standard fixture is failing when a toilet keeps running after a flush, a faucet drips from the handle base, or a shower valve won’t hold temperature. In the older ranch homes near the Pruneyard Shopping Center, we see a lot of original American Standard toilets from the 1970s and 1980s with cracked tanks or corroded flush valves that finally give out during a hard water spike.

Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard’s residential bathroom line breaks into three main tiers, and knowing which one you own determines what parts interchange. The Champion series, including the Champion 4 and Champion Pro, uses a 4-inch flush valve with a proprietary tower-style mechanism that does not swap with standard 3-inch flappers. The Cadet line, Cadet 3 and Cadet Pro, runs a 3-inch flush valve with a more conventional chain-flapper setup. The Studio collection and higher-end Town Square models use pressure-assisted or dual-flush mechanisms with cartridge-style fill valves that are series-specific.

To identify your model, lift the tank lid and check the stamp on the inside wall, usually a four-digit number starting with 4 or 2. The rough-in dimension, 10-inch, 12-inch, or 14-inch from wall to bolt center, matters for toilet replacements. For faucets, the cartridge number is printed on the stem itself, visible after you remove the handle with a 3/32-inch Allen key. We source OEM American Standard parts through Ferguson and HD Supply, though for discontinued models we often use quality aftermarket equivalents from Fluidmaster or Danco that carry the same 5-year warranty. One compatibility gotcha: the Champion 4’s flush tower looks similar to the Champion Pro’s, but the Pro uses a taller tower with a different seal geometry. We’ve seen homeowners buy the wrong one twice before calling us.

Signs Your American Standard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your American Standard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
  • Running toilet that won’t stop. The fill valve diaphragm hardens after 5-7 years in Campbell’s mineral-heavy water, or the flush valve seal warps from chlorine exposure. Either way, water seeps into the bowl and the valve cycles on every 10 minutes.
  • Faucet handle that grinds or requires force. The ceramic disc cartridge collects sediment from the Hetch Hetchy supply, scoring the sealing surfaces. Left alone, it leaks past the stem and rots the cabinet base.
  • Shower temperature that swings hot-cold. The pressure-balancing spool in American Standard’s R120 or R125 valve cartridges jams with calcium buildup. It’s a safety issue, not just comfort, scalding risk rises when the spool sticks.
  • Slow fill after flush. The fill valve inlet screen clogs with debris, or the valve body cracks from overtightening during a DIY install. The tank takes 90 seconds instead of 30.
  • Visible crack in tank or bowl. American Standard’s vitreous china is thick, but thermal shock from a hot water line routed too close, or impact from a dropped lid, creates hairline fractures that spread. A cracked tank cannot be patched reliably.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Campbell Price Range
American Standard toilet replacement (fixture + install) $900-$2,400
Faucet cartridge replacement (labor + part) $180-$340
Shower valve cartridge replacement $220-$450
Full bathroom remodel with American Standard fixtures $9,000-$28,000
Small bathroom remodel (powder room, half-bath) $5,000-$12,000

What drives the range: fixture grade (Champion Pro vs. Studio), whether the rough-in needs moving, and substrate condition behind the walls. We pull permits through Campbell’s Community Development Department when plumbing lines are altered, and we pass inspection before we close the wall. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, you get a written price before any work starts, every line item spelled out. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers both parts and labor. No change proceeds without a signed change order, which is how we’ve kept 4,000-plus projects within a few percent of the agreed number since 2007.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground for American Standard owners. You can check the model number, listen for where the leak originates, and test the fill valve by lifting the float, but we don’t recommend pulling a pressure-balanced shower cartridge yourself. The retaining clip is under spring tension, and if the water shutoff isn’t complete, you’ll have an uncontrolled release at 50 PSI that can flood a bathroom in two minutes. The toilet tank is safer, though the Champion tower mechanism has a specific reassembly sequence that leaks if the seal seats crooked.

We carry the full American Standard cartridge and valve inventory on our Campbell trucks, and we document every visit with a photo record, included standard, not an upgrade. If you’re not sure what you’ve got, call (831) 704-1211 and we’ll walk through the identification over the phone. Measure twice, document once, build it right.
